Defense architect named to 'premier' health IT group

The chief architect for the Military Health System has been selected as a senior member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.

Connie A. Gladding was chosen at a Feb. 13 meeting during the annual HIMSS conference in Dallas. The organization is considered 'the premier association for leadership in the management of technology, information and change in healthcare' and senior member status is its highest recognition of professionalism in the health information management field, according to a Defense statement.

Gladding is in charge of the development, implementation and use of clinical, administrative and management information technology systems for MHS' information management and IT programs. The systems under her purview automate healthcare processes for active duty, retirees and eligible family members and survivors.

Gladding previously served in the Navy for more than 20 years and held the position of deputy CIO for Navy medicine and executive officer for the Naval Medical Information Management Center, responsible for healthcare information management.
