The Naval Sea Systems Command has hired Computer Sciences Corp., under a $71 million contract, for program management and ship systems engineering for its DD(X) Destroyer Class Program Office.
Under the contract, which has a one-year base with four one-year options, CSC will implement business and financial tools, acquisition and ship production analysis support, aviation and mission and human systems integration, among other support functions.
The DD(X) high-tech combatant ships will feature sophisticated automation systems that allow them to operate with smaller crews than older destroyers. The program uses a spiral development acquisition model to equip ships with the latest technologies.
The project is currently in the preliminary system design phase. The next phase is detailed design and construction. Northrop Grumman Corp. is the lead contractor on the multibillion-dollar DD(X) program.
