Major programs within the Senate

Enterprise tape backup: This $3 million project will consolidate and centralize the tape backup for all office systems across the Senate.

Active Director and messaging architecture: About 50 percent of all Senate offices have migrated from Windows NT to Microsoft Windows 2003, including Exchange for e-mail. This will let the CIO's office launch enterprise applications. Another 25 percent of the migrations are scheduled, and the entire project should be finished by December.

Videoconferencing system: This Senate-wide program is providing videoconferencing technology to every lawmaker's office in Washington and across their home states. The CIO's office has installed about 300 systems, which is about 75 percent of the total number the office will deploy.
