Air Force calls on Northrop Grumman to integrate communications

Northrop Grumman Corp. won a $19 million contract from the Air Force to integrate the service's telephone and network operations, the company announced today.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman Information Technology of McLean, Va., will provide commercial, off-the-shelf hardware and software to establish a telecommunications management system for more than 100 Air Force locations worldwide.

The project will give the Air Force an enterprisewide system for managing telecommunications, the company said. The task order contract, which runs through December 2006, was awarded under the Network-Centric Solutions program.

Northrop Grumman's team includes ACE*COMM Corp., CISglobal Inc., Nortel Networks Corp., RS Information Systems Inc., Science Applications International Corp., Siemens AG and Verizon Communications Inc.

The new system will consolidate the Air Force's multiple voice network systems and migrate the data from these systems into one centralized, expandable and automated computer-based management system.

The company also will provide user training, which will enable the Air Force to manage and perform various system administration tasks and duties.
