Etter on deck to be Navy assistant secretary of research, acquisition

President Bush will nominate U.S. Naval Academy professor Delores M. Etter to be the Navy's assistant secretary of research, development and acquisition.

Prior to teaching in the academy's electrical engineering department, Etter served as the deputy undersecretary of Defense for science and technology from June 1998 to July 2001.

While at the Defense Department, Etter also served as acting director of defense for research and engineering.

Etter, who also taught electrical and computer engineering at the universities of Colorado and New Mexico, earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and a doctorate from the University of New Mexico.
