GSA delays Networx awards by eight months

GSA has pushed out the award dates for its $20 billion Networx telecommunications procurement to March 2007 for the Universal awards and May 2007 for the Enterprise awards. The previous award dates for the 10-year contracts were July 2006 and September 2006, respectively.

The changes follow an an- nouncement by GSA on Jan. 20 that it will extend for two years its current FederalTelecommunication System 2001 contracts with the contract incumbents, Sprint Communications LP and MCI Worldcom Communications Inc., respectively.

'These contracts are rather complex, and it's created a challenge for some of the industry teams,' said John Johnson, GSA's assistant commissioner for the Office of Service Development and Delivery.

GSA will require more intensive discussions to ensure that it can award best-value contracts, he said.
