SmartBuy program is saving money, OMB says

The Office of Management and Budget reported in the fiscal 2007 budget request that the contract with Oracle Corp. under the enterprise software initiative known as SmartBuy saved the government more than $174.8 million in its first six months.

The Defense Department signed Oracle to a governmentwide deal in April that gave agencies a single licensing agreement to buy the company's database products and support and maintenance services at 16 percent to 84 percent off of GSA's Federal Supply Service schedule prices.

OMB said in the budget that it expects GSA to award a new agreement this spring for anti-virus software.
