THE COMMUNITY: Meagher makes a move, and 'Jump Start' gets a boost

Friends, colleagues and well-wishers marked Ed Meagher's move last month from the Veterans Affairs Department to the Interior Department with a reception in Washington. Meagher, at right, and his wife, Toni, talk with former VA secretary Hershel Gober.

But Meagher, an Air Force Vietnam veteran, won't forget about his old constituency. As president of the Association for Federal Information Resources Management, he had a hand in the recent Operation Jump Start II, a program sponsored by several organizations and designed to help soldiers returning from Iraq make the transition to a new career. At an event in Arlington, Va., the program raised $22,000 in gift certificates, and collected 200 suits for the soldiers and 700 USB flash drives, the latter to let them take their information with them.
