VIRTUAL SPACE: Crypto Cool

The National Security Agency has introduced on its Web site a gang of hip cartoon characters that it hopes will entice kids into the field of covert data analysis'or at least play some fun educational word games. The crew includes Crypto Cat, who encodes messages in a secret language called ciphers; Decipher Dog, who breaks the ciphers Crypto Cat encodes; and Rosetta Stone, a stone cold fox whose specialty is learning new languages. The site, at www.nsa.gov/kids, has a wide variety of games, puzzles, codes, ciphers and child-friendly activities that reflect the mad skill sets that NSA requires.
