Firetide: another mesh option

Add another company to the list of folks you want to hear from when issuing a municipal WLAN RFP. Firetide Inc. of Los Gatos, Calif., is getting traction for its HotPort indoor and outdoor nodes, including a 4.9-GHz node for public safety applications.

The company recently flipped the switch on a mesh network for the Rockford, Ill., Housing Authority, which is using it with video surveillance cameras to combat crime.
The Rockford mesh comprises 16 outdoor and five indoor nodes, plus four mobile mesh nodes in police cars so officers can monitor video feeds on patrol
