Army, CTC in pact for network control switching system

The Army has ordered a new system that automates switching and record keeping processes and reduces the amount of equipment and resources necessary to perform communications testing.

Cornet Technology Communications, the network communications solutions division of Cornet Technology Inc. of Springfield, Va., won the $1.5 million order for its tech control switching system and cross-connect multiplexer.

The system will be housed at the Army's Fort Belvoir in Virginia. This is the fourth in a series of projects Cornet has done for the project manager for defense communications and Army transmission systems as part of a worldwide technical control improvement program.

The tech control switching system is an automated network infrastructure management system designed to modernize the tech control center at Fort Belvoir. The system saves cost and space by replacing more than 16 cables with one fiber-optic network cable and requires only one or two standard racks replacing walls of equipment required by older technology.

The SONUX 300 Cross Connect Multiplexer streamlines communications by combining multiple T1, DS1 and DS3 lines into a single high-speed OC-3 or OC-48 line delivering digital cross-connect switching functionality.
