Acquisitions afoot

GCN Tech brief

Your favorite sales reps may be reporting to a different company in the near future. IBM Corp. (www.ibm.com) announced that it plans to acquire logistics software provider MRO Software (www.mro.com). The Defense Department is a big user of MRO's products.

Feeling flush, IBM also set out to acquire enterprise content management software vendor FileNet Corp. (www.filenet.com), a company with a large presence in many state and local municipalities. Also on the content management front, ECM pioneer Open Text Corp. (www.opentext.com) of Waterloo, Ontario, plans to acquire Canadian cousin Hummingbird Ltd. (www.hummingbird.com).
