VA awards HSPD-12 certification deal

The Veterans Affairs Department awarded a contract to Data Systems Analysts Inc. of Philadelphia for certification and accreditation (C&A) of VA's personal-identity verification system to support compliance with HSPD-12/FIPS-201.

With the contract, the VA's PIV System will be among the first to be certified and accredited as compliant with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 and Federal Information Processing Standard 201.

The certification and accreditation will support all instances of enrollment and credential issuance stations deployed throughout VA. The PIV system will be used to issue secure and reliable credentials for access to federally controlled facilities and logical access to federally controlled information systems.

The vendor expects to complete the C&A process before the government's Oct. 26 deadline. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
