Senate approves Peters as new DOT chief

The Senate approved Mary Peters as the new Transportation Department secretary before adjourning for its election recess.
Peters, nominated for the post in early September, replaces Norman Mineta, who left
Peters had served as the head of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration from 2001 through 2005 before leaving for the private sector. Before coming to Washington, she served as chief of the Arizona Department of Transportation.
