Big Brother goes mobile

Spyware that lets you track desktop usage has been around for some time. Now it's available for Windows Mobile smartphones, too.

Want to know who your staff is calling? Want to track text messages sent and received? Just install Mobile Spy on the phone and activity logs will automatically be uploaded in real time to your Mobile Spy account without the phone's user never being aware.

Specifically, the program records date and time of all calls, the phone number connected to and the direction of the call. For text messages, the logs contain the number connected to, date and time and the message text.

While Mobile Spy can be used to enforce an organization's acceptable use policy, Retina-X Studios ' which makes spyware for desktop computers ' notes that it can also be used to keep a running record of one's own cell phone activity.

The product works with phones running Windows Mobile 2003, 2003 SE, 5.0 and 6.0. A monthly subscription costs $19.97.
