NARA recognizes agencies for archiving excellence

The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration has recognized five agencies for excellence in record management.

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the Government Accountability Office, the Department of Homeland Security's United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Department of the Navy and the Small Business Administration all received honors from the archiving agency.

Each year NARA bestows five Archivist Achievement Award to the federal records management programs or activities that it feels are worthy of recognition.

For instance, NARA bestowed the award on the Navy for its Enterprise Records Management Solution, which the defense agency implemented globally to provide collaborative access, maintenance and review of official Navy records.

The Navy has now used the system to capture more than 500,000 records from 148 unique Navy processes. The Navy built the system using Tower Software's TRIM Context enterprise content management product.
