Robots to the front lines

Alion Science and Technology has successfully demonstrated its newly developed autonomous robotic vehicle that can carry more than 1,000 pounds of combat and medical gear across the battlefield.

Developed under an $850,000 Small Business Innovative Research contract, the Self-Mobile Trailer can travel as fast as 28 mph and employs a hybrid electric design that allows it to enter danger zones silently. It also features a top-mounted rack system for cargo restraint. The rack system can be reconfigured in the field into two stretchers.
