Mimosa juices SharePoint with eDiscovery tools

Mimosa Systems’ NearPoint enterprise e-mail and file-archiving tool has added content archiving, data protection and eDiscovery support for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

The growth of SharePoint “farms” has created a challenge for government agencies and companies trying to protect SharePoint content and control storage costs, Mimosa officials said. About 85 million licensed SharePoint seats have been shipped to 17,000 organizations since its debut, Microsoft officials said.

File systems have become a kind of dumping ground for e-mail, PowerPoint attachments, pictures and jokes, said Scott Whitney, vice president of product management for Mimosa. “And all that content costs money to store.”

Mimosa NearPoint for SharePoint helps users manage production storage costs by capturing SharePoint content, decreasing archive storage requirements, and expediting eDiscovery processes with integrated search and in-place legal holds across SharePoint, Exchange and file-system content, the company said.

The product also has a quick recovery capability, Whitney said. “You got a brand new Blackberry with a reverse save that synchronizes with your e-mail. A lot of people routinely blow out all their contacts,” he said. “[With NearPoint,] all of that content can be easily restored with a single click.”

Mimosa NearPoint for SharePoint is sold either as a standalone product or as part of a content archiving system, beginning at $40 per user.
