Zoho has added Microsoft SharePoint capabilities to its online office suite with Zoho Office for Microsoft SharePoint, which lets Zoho users create, view and edit files stored in Microsoft SharePoint. The browser-based software is delivered as an add on, installing on top of Microsoft SharePoint 2007 and 2003. Users can view, edit and create documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Microsoft Office formats, using Zoho online applications. Zoho users must be connected to the Internet, the company said.
“Zoho Office for Microsoft SharePoint brings the collaborative advantages of Zoho productivity applications to Microsoft SharePoint users,” said Raju Vegesna, Zoho evangelist. “We noticed that some businesses like the collaboration capabilities of online productivity applications, but they prefer to keep their data behind their firewall,” he said. Zoho Office for Microsoft SharePoint gives users collaborative productivity apps integrated with Microsoft SharePoint behind corporate firewalls, Vegesna said.
Zoho Office for Microsoft SharePoint allows multiple users to work on the same documents at the same time, and they can see their co-workers’ edits instantly. The browser-based system lets users work on Microsoft SharePoint documents from any operating system, saving money on Microsoft Office licenses, Vegesna said.
