Kanguru adds anti-malware to a line of USB drives

Flash drive maker teams up with BitDefender

Flash drive maker Kanguru Solutions has added anti-malware software to one of its flagship USB devices. The company has joined forces with BitDefender, an anti-malware company, to develop the Kanguru Defender Elite secure flash drives.

By adding antivirus software to its secure flash drives, Kanguru is preventing them from being used to spread malicious programs to unsuspecting host computers, company representatives said.

Defender Elite uses 256-bit AES hardware encryption and is pre-validated for FIPS 140-2 requirements, Kanguru said. The drive also complies with mandates from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

The BitDefender software adds virus and malware scanning to the drive, which works with Windows operating systems and has a heavy-duty aluminum casing for extra protection, Kanguru representatives said.

"Not only does the Kanguru Defender Elite protect your data, but it also helps to safeguard your computer as well," said Noah Manders, product manager at Kanguru. "Our customers can rest easy knowing that when our drives are connected to their computer, they aren't bringing along any unwanted viruses or malware."
