DISA to roll-out platform for rapid app development

The Defense Information Systems Agency will roll out a platform-as-a-service offering next year that will allow Defense Department users to run a variety of applications without the need manage an underlying server architecture, InformationWeek reported.

Although agency officials had announced the platform-as-a-service concept last July, they provided additional details about the service this week at DISA’s annual Customer and Industry Forum in Baltimore, Md.

Scheduled for release in April 2012, the service will add to the agency’s suite of cloud services and run on top of the Rapid Access Computing Environment. RACE is an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) project that dynamically provides server space on demand for developing and testing DoD software applications.
