NY state to proceed with student database
New York's on-again, off-again bid to join a multistate database of students' academic information is back on, the
Wall Street Journal reports.
In its effort to join a $44 million education data project called the Shared Learning Collaborative, New York had signed a contract with Wireless Generation. But in August, state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli canceled the contract, citing privacy concerns about the company, which is owned by News Corp., and about the overall project.
But the New York Board of Regents on Dec. 13 decided to move forward with the project, voting to authorize the state Education Department to find companies to finish the job of creating the database.
Wireless Generation has not said whether it will submit another bid to work on the project, the Journal reports.
