Malware Madness: Conficker, Zeus ascend -- on to the Elite Eight

The first round is over, the mid-major malware is gone, and now it’s time for the Elite Eight of Malware Madness 2012.

In the last bracket of Round One, Conficker blew out StonedAngelina, while Zeus scored a comfortable if unimpressive win over Storm Worm, completing the field for Round Two.

Our first two matchups pit top-seeded Stuxnet against No. 9 Melissa, which scored a mild upset in Round One, and No. 4 Code Red against No. 5 Nimda.

Can Melissa, which made its bones flooding mail servers in 1999, knock off the currently feared, industrial-control scourge Stuxnet? And which of the mass-infecting Code Red and Nimda, both from the 2001 recruiting class, has more staying power? The winner of each of these matches moves to the semi-finals, so make your vote count.

Go to the Malware Madness page, put in your two cents and check in on the results to date.
