Army aims to take its training game to the next level

After using gaming to train soldiers in everything from missile response and defense, submarine maintenance and repair and large scale scenario-based exercises, to rehabilitation for post traumatic stress syndrome, the Army is now looking for more advanced gaming applications.
A recently released request for information for a Next Generation Game training solution describes “a game-based solution to train individual soldiers and small-to-medium units in a shared environment, providing varying levels of immersion.”
The NGG will leverage gaming technologies available in the commercial sector such as:
- User friendly software development
- Higher fidelity graphics
- An ability to move across PC-platforms
- Extensions for web-based, console, mobile and augmented reality training
- Support of cloud storage and processing
- Interfaces for future technological hardware and software support (i.e. virtual reality systems)
- Improved interoperability with the Live-Virtual-Constructive
- Improved interoperability with Joint Intergovernmental Interagency Multinational systems
- A services-based methodology to operate within the Synthetic Training Environment
Other requirements specify that the NGG must use open industry standards for component interactions and all data content storage, be capable of using and exporting simulation terrain and Common Moving Models in an open standard and be able to compose, save and export behavioral models.
The deadline for proposal submissions for the Army’s most recent NGG RFI is Sept. 30, 2015.
