Virginia educators get data analytics platform

Public schools in Virginia will soon have access to a unified educational data platform, linking all of the commonwealth’s school divisions, administrators, staff, teachers and students.
The Virginia Information Technologies Agency signed a contract with Interactive Achievement to supply the Department of Education with the company’s onTRAC system, which identifies achievement trends, tracks progress for students and provides a breakdown of critical data that teachers can use to create personalized learning plans.
“The onTRAC system lets our staff focus in on the needs of every individual student,” said Jim Yurasits, director of testing, data, and school improvement for Orange County Public Schools. “The seemingly impossible task of analyzing the large volume of data that needs to be collected for every student is simplified by the reporting tools built into the onTRAC system.”
The onTRAC system uses established and newly tracked data points to identify education trends, determine a student’s or district’s education strengths and weaknesses, track progress against standardized testing data and allow teachers and administrators to build data-driven, customized tactics for each student, said Jonathan Hagmaier, CEO of Interactive Achievement.
The partnership with the Virginia Department of Education will begin in late August. With this award, school districts that opt-in to the state-provided onTRAC solution will receive the service at no cost with the state covering all related license fees. The company will work directly with the Department of Education and districts on an implementation timetable.
