BlackBerry's encrypted mobile service gets NSA approval

To help as agencies  secure their mobile communications, BlackBerry is expanding its cybersecurity products with SecuSUITE for Government,  a multiplatform solution for end-to-end encryption of voice calls and messages.

SecuSUITE is BlackBerry’s first secure mobile voice product listed on both the National Information Assurance Partnership’s Product Compliant List and the National Security Agency’s Commercial Solutions for Classified Program List.

“In today’s connected world, restricting agency employees to only exchange classified information from the desk phone is no longer a viable option,” Alex Thurber, senior vice president and general manager of mobility solutions at BlackBerry, said. “[B]ut it could be the new reality if governments don’t start securing calls and texts from mobile devices.”

SecuSUITE for Government is hosted on premise and delivers secure calls over carrier networks.  Its encryption and authentication processes run in the background without affecting battery life, performance or usability, the company said. Users are already authenticated, the certificate exchange takes place during call setup and the client is optimized to maintain its SIP connection, meaning users are always reachable.

The service runs on iOS, Android and BlackBerry smartphones and tablets.
