Mississippi launches auto-renewal of annual licenses

The same way magazine subscriptions and auto-club memberships automatically renew, hunting and fishing licenses in Mississippi can now be set to extend each year.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) launched a new customer dashboard that  allows users to opt-in to automatic renewal of their annual licenses. Logging into the mobile-friendly system only requires keying in a driver's license number, date of birth, state of residence and credit card information. Opting in for automatic renewal  is available whether the license was originally purchased online or in person, according to Mississippi Interactive, an NIC company that built and runs the licensing program for the state.

Like most states, Mississippi is offering more self-service options for residents. It launched an Alexa skill in 2016 that answers questions about state government services.  Optometrists and foresters can also renew their business licenses online.

“The new auto-renewal option, mobile game check, and digital licenses are just a few of the convenient services you’ll see from the Department this year,” MDWFP Executive Director Sam Polles said.

Sales of online hunting licenses has been growing, with one out of six hunting licenses sold through an NIC system, the company said.
