DISA ramps up cloud push

The Defense Information Systems Agency is bolstering support for its Enterprise Services Division, which will oversee some of the Defense Department's largest cloud computing efforts.
The Enterprise Services Division, which goes by the acronym SD3, manages DISA's efforts around what it calls unified capabilities, which includes voice, global video, messaging and defense collaboration services. DISA’s new request for information seeks technical and engineering services that would support these efforts as well as management of enterprise controls, contracts/task orders and risk. Services that DISA is looking for include expertise in traditional IT infrastructure and cloud computing. The agency also wants support to manage ongoing and future initiatives such as planning, designing and sustaining unified capabilities programs.
The vendor that wins the SD3 support contract work will also manage the Defense Enterprise Office Solution. That effort, known as DEOS, aims to move some 3.1 million end users to a cloud-based environment that will be used for both classified and unclassified communications.
The final solicitation for DEOS was released April 26, under GSA’s Schedule 70 vehicle. DISA will buy email, content management, file storage, productivity tools, web conferencing, instant messaging, native audio and video and mobility through a commercial cloud model. Like its more controversial sibling the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure, DEOS will be a single-award contract.
