Automating problem solving in enterprise data centers
The Naval Information Warfare Center (NWIC) is looking for new ways to help enterprise data centers perform at an expert level despite not having sufficient IT staff with extensive experience.
Today’s IT systems feature a variety of commercial toolsets for operating and troubleshooting activities and require a significant staff of certified network and virtualization engineers to support a typical data center. As commercial tools rapidly advance and increase in complexity, it becomes difficult for individual staff members -- let alone several engineers -- to master the software fast enough to keep up. Government’s chronic understaffing only exacerbates the problem.
In a request for information, NWIC said it wants to hear from companies, universities and startups about novel solutions for reducing IT burden on staff and helping them use current network admin/systems admin tools. New approaches would feature automation -- using artificial intelligence, machine learning, expert systems and smart searching technologies -- to support IT staff as they manage complex networks and provide recommended solutions for a specific technical issues.
Rather than require IT staff to learn a new tool, the program aims to provide automated management can identify root cause issues and surface potential solutions. The information should be displayed via an easy-to-use dashboard, NWIC said.
