Login.gov opens to state and local programs

Login.gov, the General Services Administration’s cloud-based remote identity proofing platform, is now available to select federally funded state and local government programs.

Launched in 2017 by GSA’s Technology Transformation Services (TTS), login.gov provides more than 60 applications at 17 federal agencies with strong authentication so that the public can easily access participating programs with one login. It features flexible multifactor authentication and can be used from mobile devices as well as desktops.

With the pandemic making it more critical that citizens have fast and easy access to federal benefits and services, TTS is looking for state and local government partners that want to use login.gov for the websites of their federally funded programs. In a Feb. 18 blog, TTS said would limit state and local partnerships to those linked to federal programs in which TTS has experience providing assistance.

Participating agencies have access to a developer sandbox where security teams try out login.gov integrations for free, and receive support from the login.gov community.
