Don't call it a silo

Overheard in the din of federal IT world: By everyone most know that when someone in management calls your project a "silo," it is not a compliment. What they are saying is that your system doesn't its share its data nicely with other IT systems, a big no-no in this world of post-09/11 open standard-based information sharing.

One person's clever answer to this accusation? It is not a "silo." It is a "cylinder of excellence."
