Connecting state and local government leaders

Monster.com has launched several initiatives with state and local governments to connect jobseekers with potential local employers.

Although the unemployment rate remains stubbornly high, job site Monster.com is fighting back by launching several new state and local Web sites aimed at providing networking and support for people seeking work. The job site company is partnering with state and local governments to help them attract and develop their workforces.

“We’re seeing an incredible amount of innovation at the local level — applying next-generation technology to everything from networking to workforce training,” said Lee Ramsayer, vice president of Monster Worldwide’s public sector and education division. “The good news is that there are many positions to fill and our solutions help to accelerate the process.”

Monster’s public sector and education applications focus on five areas: talent attraction, online career communities, student recruitment, real-time labor intelligence and services.

For example, Monster has worked with Ohio to run www.ohiomeansjobs.com, a site that provides free access to a database of 3.5 million resumes of jobseekers who live in or near Ohio.

The company has also set up online career communities in Riverside County, Calif., where jobseekers can connect with other people looking for work as well as potential employers.

Monster also has conducted “power seeker” workshops to give displaced workers tips and training on using the Web to find jobs and create an “Internet brand” for themselves, the company said.
