Dell, CGI tee up cloud-based enterprise services

Dell and CGI announced a joint venture to offer virtual desktop, business analytics and identity management services to government and enterprise customers.
Dell and CGI last week announced a partnership to offer a set of cloud-supported services to address what they see as the biggest technology challenges facing their government and commercial customers: enterprise efficiency, security and business processes.
The companies said they would build and deliver a set of services initially built around core technologies, including virtual desktop integration (VDI), business analytics and secure enterprise access management.
Both companies offer a portfolio of global services, with CGI having its roots in IT consulting, systems integration, application development and infrastructure management. Technology from both companies would be used in developing its services, the companies said.
As a result of this new global alliance, Dell and CGI will design and build a comprehensive portfolio of solutions in the following areas:
Managed VDI. Managed, cloud-based virtual desktop infrastructure is designed to lower the cost of the desktop enterprise for large organizations, according to the companies, while improving access and identity management and enabling multidevice, mobile workforces.
“This turnkey solution will give end users the ability to securely access corporate data and applications from anywhere on any device delivered from CGI’s secure cloud environments or from a client’s data center, according to the announcement.
Business analytics. The companies said as more of their clients want to extract statistical and business insights from multiple data sources, Dell and CGI will offer a set of “predictive analytics capabilities to unlock the value of data for government, healthcare, finance and other organizations.”
The Dell-CGI analytics solution would be “drawn from CGI’s industry-specific business solutions for mission-critical functions and Dell’s business intelligence and analytics tools,” the companies said. The offering would also enable customers to “work more productively through a cloud-based delivery model.”
Enterprise access. In the area of access management, the companies said their solution would be “designed to dramatically improve the ability of enterprises to provide access to large, variable-user populations while also protecting their assets and information.”
CGI executive vice-president Doug McCuaig said the Dell partnership “adds value for our clients and increases the power of our own portfolio of end-to-end solutions.”
Dell vice president Cheryl Cook added that the Dell Alliance would “help our joint customers in the finance, healthcare, government and manufacturing industries more quickly extract value from their IT investments, and deliver the outcomes required to grow their businesses.”
They said their initial service offering in the area of managed virtual desktop integration will be available in early 2015 and globally the second half of 2015.
