The Xtreme Computing Platform includes a Nutanix developed open source hypervisor and one-click infrastructure management.

Nutanix, a software-defined enterprise solutions provider, announced its Xtreme Computing Platform, an “invisible infrastructure” for its hyperconverged services.

XCP is a software-defined platform that lets agencies to focus on the applications and services themselves, as opposed to the infrastructure in which they reside.  It includes a Nutanix-developed, open-source hypervisor, which the company says will simplify IT management and cuts costs, since applications do not require a VMware or Microsoft hypervisor.

Nutanix XCP is comprised of two product families: Acropolis, for compute and storage, and Prism, for diagnostics and analysis.

Acropolis uses an open platform for virtualization and application mobility, giving IT professionals the flexibility to choose the best application platform technology for their organization -- whether it is traditional hypervisors, emerging hypervisors or containers -- while allowing workloads to move more seamlessly without penalty should requirements change.

Prism aims to simplify infrastructure management and time-consuming tasks such as upgrades, analysis and troubleshooting. It converges storage, compute and virtualization resources into a unified system to provide an end-to-end view of all workflows. Prism also features advanced machine learning technology that can quickly mine large volumes of system data.

XCP is hardened for government use, Nutanix said.

“WithNutanix has demonstrated its ability to radically simplify data storage for all size enterprises,” said Matt Eastwood, senior vice president of IDC. "Their next big opportunity is to tackle the inherent cost and complexity of legacy virtualization stacks, and elevate IT teams so they can focus on driving the business.”
