The online repository supports creating legal policy and procedures around the lawful access to evidence from public and private cloud sources.

The Conference of Western Attorneys General is launching an online repository of procedural documents and educational resources to help law enforcement officers and prosecutors develop policies on the collection digital evidence.

The Digital Forensics Resource Library is designed to help law enforcement stay on top of rapidly changing forensics, cloud and analytics technologies; it includes digital forensic best practices, sample warrants, consent documents and training videos.  It was created by the CWAG Cyber Security Working Group-Digital Forensics Task Force with technical guidance from Cellebrite, a company that provides digital forensics solutions to law enforcement, military, intelligence and enterprise customers.

With an initial goal of creating legal policy and procedures around the access of public and private cloud through tools like Cellebrite's UFED Cloud Analyzer, CWAG recognized the wider implications and value of creating and sharing their collective insights, officials said.

“Digital intelligence tools can provide real-time collection of cloud-based evidence in a forensically sound manner, enabling law enforcement officers and investigators to preserve and analyze data in the public domain, including location information, profiles, images, files and communications from the most popular social media applications,” CWAG Executive Director Karen White said.

The library's best practices section is open to the public, but information on digital process workflow, sample warrants and consent documents, case examples and training videos are available only to CWAG members.
