Contractors were placing finishing elements of the new Washington Convention Center in place as FOSE exhibitors and staff moved into the huge complex for its inaugural major event. Show attendees got the rare chance to attend a grand opening trade show even as they watched the final rolls of carpet and signage being locked into place.

Stephen J. Rohleder, group chief executive in the government operating group of Accenture, gave FOSE's initial keynote Tuesday morning by presenting findings from the company's just published report, "eGovernment Leadership: Engaging the Customer." The speech set the e-gov theme of many Tuesday FOSE events.
Palm representatives offered free rides around the show floor on two models of the Segway Human Transporter, the two-wheeled, self-balancing, electric powered personal transportation device hailed by some as the next revolution in human transportation.

Unisys Corp., vice president Teresa Weipert addresses the crowd at the seventh annual AFFIRM-FOSE luncheon, sponsored by the professional organization that is affiliated with the Federation of Government Information Processing Councils. A representative of the South Korean government sets up a display in the FOSE exhibit hall. FOSE venues this year attracted a significant number of international corporation exhibits and government IT professionals, who were invited to speak on e-government and governance.

E-Town Pavilion, booth H101 in the exhibit hall, offers FOSE attendees a smorgasbord of learning opportunities on ways government is being transformed by information technology. The well-marked entryway is lined with demonstrations and educational settings for attendees to meet with e-gov project managers.
