CollabNet has released a new professional services package to help clients improve their collaborative software development efforts.

CollabNet, a provider of software development collaboration technology, has released a new professional services suite to help government clients improve their collaborative software development efforts.

CollabNet’s Community in Box is a new package of services for persons using the company’s TeamForge software. Government clients will be able to access CollabNet’s best practices wiki, the Community Management Cookbook, as well as get a one-hour audit that details the health of their collaborative community and a Quick Start template to deploy CollabNet TeamForge for free.

The free audit helps establish goals and metrics for the community, provides a health and resource assessment and helps companies determine the effectiveness of their current structure, as well as where they would like to be in the future.

For a fee, users can receive additional assistance and strategic consulting through a community manager or adviser, one of CollabNet’s professional services consultants. Best practices from both CollabNet and from the community will be available on the Community Management Cookbook, and customers will be able to leave comments as well.

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is one of the government clients contributing to the wiki, according to Mike Bellissimo, CollabNet’s vice president of worldwide services. DISA’s Forge.mil intranet site provides an online meeting place for military agencies to build software collaboratively, and is run on CollabNet’s TeamForge software.

Other agencies and military services that use CollabNet include the Air Force, the National Weather Service, the Patent and Trademark Office and the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

CollabNet’s TeamForge software allows software developers to work together on projects even if they are geographically dispersed. Teams can manage the entire software development life cycle on the platform. The distributed application life-cycle management software is a Web-based project management and collaborative tool system built on a centralized repository that facilitates the reuse of code, processes, artifacts, templates, knowledge sharing and transfer as information is centrally located on the repository.
