Route1's MobiLINK lets users securely access applications from iOS devices without having to open a VPN tunnel.

Route1, maker of the DEFIMNET Identity Management Platform used by agencies within the Defense and Homeland Security departments, has announced some new products designed to make BYOD easier to implement for Apple device users.

MobiLINK is a secure connection technology that enables users to securely access applications from any device running iOS. “MobiLINK is in direct response to feedback we have received from current and prospective clients when discussing their mobility and security requirements,” said Tony Busseri, Route1’s CEO. “MobiLINK is Route1’s first technology offering that decouples our authentication capability from our remote access protocol.”

It connects to Route1’s MobiNET technology directly without the need to open a virtual private network tunnel and will be available from the Apple App Store sometime before the end of March.

Route1 also has the MobiKEY flash drive that functions as a full-function computer that can securely access a MobiNET or DEFIMNET service from a laptop or mobile device. In addition to coming out with a new version of the software for all types of MobiKEY devices, Route1 also is making available a version that runs on any device running iOS.

“Evolving technology, network-based services, volumes of digital data and ubiquitous connectivity have created a demand for increased mobile access capabilities in both the public and private sectors.  Further, there is an increase in teleworking and a prevailing allowance by organizations that encourage the employee to ‘bring your own device,’” Busseri said. “The challenge for an organization is how to address access, data security and entitlement management in a balanced, yet cost effective fashion.”

The MobiKEY flash drive also will be available within a month from the Route1 website.
