ABOUT
The demand for cybersecurity workers in government and industry is increasing dramatically. In mid-summer, there were estimated to be more than 700,000 open positions, including in state and local governments. Even with automation and machine learning to help defend their networks, agencies still need to hire highly skilled and diverse security staff—a workforce that can be hard to attract given the public sector’s limited budget.
Help is on the way. Recent legislation has added new funding and capabilities with the State and Local Cybersecurity Act of 2021, which offers short-term working collaborations for state and local personnel at the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant program, which provides $1 billion in grant funding over four years. The Cybersecurity Training Bill requires DHS to share guidelines and curricula that it develops with state and local entities. In this webcast, learn about how agencies are attracting and funding new cybersecurity workers, upskilling current employees and managing their growing cyber responsibilities.
