Genesis has revealed its “Luxury High Performance” vision, and it indeed promises an uncompromising decade in the days to come for the luxury Korean automobile brand. Genesis has now unveiled the GV60 Magma production model and the Magma GT Concept car at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France, marking the beginning of Genesis’ transition from a luxury automobile company to a luxury performance automobile brand.
The GV60 Magma is the first high-performance model in the Genesis lineup
The GV60 Magma is Genesis’s first model within the high-performance category, producing 609 horsepower and 790 Nm torque from its dual motor powertrain. With Boost Mode engaged, the power increases to 650 horsepower and 790 Nm torque, allowing the car to accelerate from 0-200 km/h in 10.9 seconds. The model has some unique design elements, such as a sport-tuned lowering system, flared bumpers, and special 21-inch forged wheels.
Genesis has structured the Magma philosophy using the following three elements: Unspoken Dominance in terms of design, the Captivating Control provided by the driving experience, and the Sharpened Immersion provided by the user experience. “The concept aims for elegance rather than aggression, developing a car that inspires the driver, rather than intimidating them. The mid-engine configuration foreshadows Genesis’ plans in the world of GT racing.”
The design principle goes on to include characteristic design features, such as the lower placed front, coupe-style roofline, and tapered rear decklid, all of which aim at redefining classic GT design in the Genesis definition. The functional aerodynamics on the Genesis include the use of the G-Matrix pattern, purposeful rear design, and other components like the canards on the front. The Magma GT Concept has a ‘boat-tail’ cabin that tapers in toward the rear, accentuating the car’s stance and, like all high-performance cars, the ‘low and wide’ design. The use of the front ‘canards,’ together with the headlamps, works in conjunction to increase the car’s down force. The mechanical rear light design, together with the optimized aerodynamics package, exudes a purposeful performance-oriented character, outlining Genesis’s aggressive approach to the world of motorsport in the next decade.
The outlook on luxury and the concept of luxury itself, particularly the luxury
Genesis’s ‘Luxury High Performance’ concept differentiates itself in the performance methodology, wherein the ultimate goal isn’t simply the power offered by horses. Genesis believes in the beauty of elegance, even when paired with the power offered through ‘effortless performance.’ There isn’t much need for excessive power and ‘intensity’ in a luxury car.
