Citrix adds new capabilities to cloud computing line.

Citrix today announced several additions to its Citrix Cloud Center (C3) product line today at the Citrix Synergy 2009 conference in Las Vegas.

The company has added Citrix XenApp and Citrix XenDesktop to the C3 platform, which will enable service providers to deliver any Microsoft Windows applications in the Software as a Service (SaaS) model and also Windows Desktops as a Service (DaaS), Citrix said.

At the heart of these new tools is the Citrix Service Provider program, specifically designed for service providers who provide hosted software services to end users. The CSP program targets the service provider market for off-site and multi-tenant hosting, where the end user is not the licensee. It also gives service providers the flexibility of a monthly active subscriber and licensing model, the company said.

Citrix is also offering a virtual appliance version of Citrix NetScaler called NetScaler VPX, which will enable service providers to run multiple NetScaler instances simultaneously and provide multi-tenancy Web application delivery.

Citrix XenServer, one of the main components of Citrix C3, will soon feature a distributed virtual switch add-on to enable secure, multi-tenant, highly scalable public clouds. The switch will partition network traffic on a per-application basis and offer control over inter-VM traffic within both a server and virtual network overlay.

The company is also launching a series of Citrix C3 Cloud Blueprints, guidelines for testing virtualization, security and application services in a cloud environment.

Citrix C3, with XenApp and XenDesktop, goes on sale today. The Citrix Service Provider program starts June 1. A preview of NetScaler VPX will be available for free download from Citrix.com on May 18. A preview of XenServer virtual switch for XenServer 5.5 will be available for free download from Citrix.com on June 1.
