The Socrata Connected Government Cloud is a self-service environment that breaks down data silos and promotes collaboration and reuse of data so agencies can more easily share information internally.
"Connecting the dots" poses perhaps the biggest challenge government agencies face. Whether it's within a department, across agencies or in interactions with the public, sharing information has been difficult for organizations whose data and information systems have become increasingly siloed.
Socrata, the open data platform provider recently acquired by Tyler Technologies, announced its Connected Government Cloud, a cloud-based, self-service environment that breaks down data silos and promotes collaboration and reuse of data so agencies can more easily share information internally.
“We want to create a world where employees in government have one place to go to find the data and information that they need,” Safouen Rabah, vice president of product strategy in the Data and Insights Division of Tyler Technologies, told GCN. The Socrata Connected Government Cloud brings together automation and intelligence data pipelines to manage, organize and automate the flow of the data and improve its quality.
The platform includes various Socrata functions that enable data-as-a-service, performance optimization, financial insights, operational intelligence and citizen engagement. It also includes tools to help government employees visualize and share data.
By allowing employees use applications such Microsoft’s Power BI or Tableau, the new SaaS gives agencies access to analytics tools without needing to replicate data, Rabah said.
This data-as-a-service infrastructure allows agencies to scale their applications and manage their open data programs more efficiently. “We believe that it is important to allow the open platform to scale and reuse data that is being shared internally in order to drive program efficiencies,” Rabah said.
All of Socrata’s products and solutions run in the Amazon Web Services public cloud. The Socrata Connected Government Cloud is hosted in the company's secured environment, which has been certified by the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program.
