Vehicle recalls happen fairly often. Automakers routinely monitor their cars for safety or technical issues to ensure they remain roadworthy. Recently, Toyota and Lexus issued a recall affecting 174,000 vehicles due to concerns involving brake system malfunctions and potential seatbelt defects.

Toyota recalls 147,000 vehicles

The announcement made by Toyota  refers to the following makes and models of vehicles:

  • 2025 MY Toyota Camry
  • 2025 MY Lexus NX
  • 2024 MY Lexus RX
  • 2025 MY Lexus RX
  • 2024 MY Toyota Tacoma
  • 2025 MY Toyota Tacoma

2024-2025 Tacoma  4-wheel drive

The largest model recall involves 106,000 MY 2024-25 Tacoma 4-wheel drive vehicles equipped with 16-inch brakes and 17-inch Toyota wheels. It is particularly important that alerted owners bring in their vehicles, as the cars affected are experiencing problems with their rear brake horses. These brakes can experience a built-up of damage over time, especially if mud and dirt get built up inside the rear wheels.

If these brakes get damaged, it can be a severe safety concern. Brake fluid could leak, which means that the chances of you being involved in a crash increases. As part of the recall, Toyota dealerships will replace the rear brake and horses with new and improved ones at no additional cost to you.

Safety seatbelt concerns for numerous vehicles

The rest of the recall affects approximately 41,000 vehicles drawn from the aforementioned models. These cars reportedly have problems with their second-row center seatbelt. According to reports, the seatbelt may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. The error means that the seatbelt would not meet its strength requirements. If this happens, it increases your risk of injury should you be involved in a car accident. If your vehicle is one of the 41,000, Toyota will inspect the seatbelt and replace it at no additional cost if necessary. You will be notified by April 2025 if your vehicle has been affected.

Ensuring vehicle safety through recalls

While vehicle recalls can be an extra added stress to vehicle owners, it is important that you get your vehicle to the manufacturer as soon as possible should you be notified that your vehicle needs to be sent back into the dealership. Ensuring your car is roadworthy is essential not just for your own safety, but for other drivers on the road. If you are a vehicle owner, it is your responsibility to maintain the integrity of the safety of your fellow drivers.

Toyota is not the only automobile brand who has recently issued recalls for their vehicles. Honda recently issued a vehicle recall due to a software problem in nearly 300,000 of their vehicles. If not addressed, the problem could cause cause affected models to stall or lose engine power unexpectedly. While no accidents have been linked to the issue yet, it is critical that you take your car in as fast as possible to avoid one.

KIA also announced a vehicle recall for 80,000 of their vehicles. These problems are related to the floor wiring beneath the front passenger seat. If this problem is not resolved, it could mean that your car could experience airbags and seatbelt failings in the case of an accident. The recall affects certain 2023-2025 Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and hybrid models.

Ford has also faced a significant vehicle recall for 270,000 Broncos and Mavericks. This problem has to do with the battery where, similar to the Honda recall, it can cause engine failure for the vehicle. It is important for automobile brands to ensure that they are monitoring the performance of their vehicles on the road. This ensures the safety of their consumers as well as the reputation of their brand.
