The tainted product was sold at several major retailers across the United States and Tri-Union Seafoods, the company that manufactures the canned tuna, has recently issued a voluntary recall on the product due to a packaging defect that could severely impact the integrity of the food product.

Details of the FDA tuna recall

On Friday, February 7, Tri-Union Seafoods issued a notice for a voluntary recall of certain canned tuna products sold under various labels across multiple retailers nationwide. The canned product was sold under Trader Joe’s, H-E-B, Van Camp’s, and Genova brands and could be found at all major retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, and Publix.

The need for a recall came about after the supplier noticed a manufacturing defect that compromised the “easy open” lids found on the tuna cans.
