Are you an egg lover? One of America’s top retailers, Walmart, has limited the number of eggs you can now purchase. The retailer limited the number of eggs per customer due to the deadly virus called avian flu, which has killed many chickens. Walmart<\/strong><\/a> is one of the largest stores that has been placing a limit on the number of eggs consumers can buy in a single purchase.<\/p>\n

Reports have shown that the retailer has placed a limit of two 60-count cartons per purchase and the reason for this is to ensure that more consumers have access to eggs. Currently, the supply of eggs is tight, but the retailer is working with suppliers to try and meet the demands of its consumers. The CNBC spokesperson further indicated that they are trying to meet the demand of consumers, while also trying to keep the prices of eggs as low as possible to fit the needs of loyal Walmart consumers.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the prices of eggs have been doubled in Walmart because farmers were forced to slaughter millions of sick chickens due to this dangers flu. According to reports, the price of eggs in the United States increased with 50% over the past year. This is double the normal price consumers are used to paying and now they have to stick their hands deeper into their pockets. The main reason for this is because there is an egg shortage due to the flu causing chickens to get sick and die. Also, to prevent sick chickens from being sold, farmers then have to take the difficult route and slaughter the chickens to prevent consumers from getting sick.<\/p>\n

Impact on other stores<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Waffle House, an Atlanta-based restaurant chain, decided to offset the hike by adding a surcharge of 50 cents per egg. This bird flu has caused a massive eggs shortage in the United States and therefore, a severe raise in the prices of eggs, Waffle House indicated in a statement. As a result, consumers and stores are left to make difficult decisions regarding this situation. Additionally, Cracker Barrel took a whole other road when addressing this issue. This chain did not increase its prices due to this problem, instead the chain responded to it by indicating that consumers can score double reward point if they order dishes with their eggs.<\/p>\n

Last year (2024), it was made known that avian flu spread across Cullman County commercial broiler far. As a result of this, a slaughter occur that included more than 100 000 bird. Unfortunately, the birds included chickens because it was the birds who were the majority in the flock.<\/p>\n

What’s next?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Many American have to brace themselves for this situation and prepare to pay more for eggs. If not, they will have to make alternative decisions and arrange, for example not eating eggs for a while. However, since eggs are a fan favourite and, in many households, a “must-have” because it is easy and convenient to make and, consumers will have to spend that extra money on eggs. Many stores, including larger retailers like Walmart, have to take extreme measures to ensure that each consumer gets at least 60 carton eggs.<\/p>\n

This price will continue to be this high due to the eggs shortage and announcements will be made when there is no longer a shortage of eggs. But in the meantime, consumers should take note of the limit at the Walmart stores because the retailer wants to make provision for all or most of its consumers.
