It has come under the attention of many that consumers are planning to boycott some of America’s largest retailers. These large American retailers are Walmart and Target stores – millions of American consumers prepare themselves for something major on 28 February 2025<\/a>. This comes after a decision was made by President Donald Trump and the consumers feel that the only way they can let their voices be heard is by closing their pockets.<\/p>\n

The story behind the Walmart and Target boycotts<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Consumers decided to participate in a rally by not participating in any spending when it came to these two large retailers. This is after President Trump’s actions to eliminate federal DEI programs. DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) is a term utilised to describe the various policies and programs, set out to address essential aspects like representation and the involvement of various groups of people, coming from different backgrounds. Also, this rally is in action to protest the retreat by some of the American businesses from DEI initiatives.<\/p>\n

In addition, the date for this rally to take place is on the last day of this month, 28 February 2025. It is still unclear which business started with this blackout initiative on the 28th of February. However, a group called The People’s Union and its founder, reshared several post pertaining to the blackout on social media. The Instagram handle of the founder is @TheOneCalledJai reshared and circulated about this rally consumers has planned on 28 February 2025.<\/p>\n

The rally of consumers<\/strong><\/h2>\n

All other consumers are called on the boycott spending any money on this day. Thus, it will be a complete blackout on the 28th. This has spread as wide as communication on social media where consumers are encouraged to participate in this one-day rally. The message on social media platforms specifically talks about a 24-hours spending blackout that is planned for the 28th of February. Consumers should not spend any money in-store or online. However, if any consumer does have an emergency or run out of any essentials, they are more than welcome to support small local businesses.<\/p>\n

Some other stores are also expected to fall victims of this boycott. Another one of America’s big stores Amazon’s, name was also mentioned as a possible company consumers will boycott against. Below are some of the California stores that might be boycotted against:<\/p>\n

    The bigger impact of this one-day boycott<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Although boycotting is a good way to turn your grievances into action, there are many other aspects that needs to be considered. For example, one essential aspect that should be taken into account is the image and brand of the company that is boycotted against. If consumers go on mere rumours without clear facts, it can cause much damage to the company involved.<\/p>\n

    Additionally, the economic impact should also be considered in this regard. A different boycott is underway for Target, since the retailer has always focused on diversity and inclusion. This boycott will be during Black History Month and started on the 1st of February 2025. This is in response to the retailer’s decision to phase out the DEI initiatives. More specifically, this is an indefinite boycott for Target, until the retailer changes its actions. This was communicated by a civil rights attorney,<\/p>\n

    Popular people like comedian and actress Leslie Jones, Pastor Jamal-Harrison Bryant, also spoke up about the expected boycott. Many people from the minorities are speaking up and planning to participate in this rally. Infact, many wants to prolong it and rather support local black business and not support the bigger companies who are for this decision that President Trump stands for.
