If these smaller, or rather, lesser known companies keep up with their improvements and competitive pricings, retailers like Walmart and Costco might may face some trouble with their sales totals.

In fact, there has not been a better time than recent weeks for other retailers to step up and market themselves better. This is, in part, due to the rapidly ballooning inflation rates and overall cost of living. However, consumers have also become a lot more intentional about where they shop for reasons that extend beyond financial capabilities. Many “big name” companies like Amazon or Target having been facing massive backlash from consumers and shareholders alike amidst the companies’ decision to discontinue any Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies as a result of Donald Trump’s election to office.

Recent weeks have revealed the news of an expansion plan for Texas-based BJ’s Wholesale Club and the retailer’s business model is enabling it to compete with retail giants like Costco or Walmart’s Sam’s Club.

Goodbye Walmart, hello BJ’s Wholesale Club

BJ’s Wholesale Club, a retail chain that can be found operating across various regions in the United States, has recently announced its plans to open four new locations around the North Texas region. What makes this retailer stand out amongst its peers is their unique, centralized business model through which BJ’s offers its services and products under one singular brand. This way of operation allows for cheaper pricing and the industry at large is seeing an uptick in private label products across retailers lately.

BJ’s Wholesale Club has a similar range of offerings as the likes of Costco or Sam’s Club meaning customers can stock up on food items, electronics, homeware items and so much more, all in one trip.

Additionally, much like Sam’s Club or Costco, BJ’s Wholesale Club will also have a membership system in place meaning customers will have to enroll in the membership program and pay a fee in order to gain access to the store.

BJ’s Wholesale is aptly named so as the retailer offers wholesale products in bulk volumes to its customers, and as is the standard in retail, bulk offerings means cheaper price points for thousands of customers to take advantage of.

Where can you find these new locations?

The wholesale retailer is planning to open its four new locations in the Northern Texas area, more specifically in Forney, Fort Worth, Waxahachie and Grand Prairie.

In terms of sizing and design, each of these new store locations will measure somewhere close to 107,000 square feet (9,940 square meters) in size which will create a new shopping opportunity for thousands — if not more — of Texans to get their grocery shopping done without feeling the pinch on their wallets. Additionally, costs to construct each store is estimated to amount to $9.5 million per location.

At present, BJ’s Wholesale Clubs can be found in sixteen states across the United States, however, the retailer has a higher concentration of stores in the Northeast region. The retailer also currently has well over 25,000 people employed.

The opening of four new locations for a company that operates on such a large scale is not just good news for shoppers. These warehouse bulk sale-based retailers often need a solid workforce in order to keep itself running and as such these new locations will result in a fair amount of job creation that will help better the economy. Granted, this cannot reverse current inflation rates or stabilize the country’s economy at large, but even these small, seemingly insignificant changes can have a long-term impact on the state of things.

It appears that the ‘big three’ of the grocery industry (think Target, Walmart etc.) might soon lose their top spots as other, smaller retailers are not playing around this year.
