Wells Fargo, along with several other companies have been hit with a class action lawsuit<\/a> and are now on the hook to pay class members a massive $19.5 million settlement in order to resolve the allegations made against them.<\/p>\n

Customers of Wells Fargo need nothing more than their cell phone number to claim a maximum amount of $5,000 dollars in this class action lawsuit. Keep an eye out for key dates related to this case below.<\/p>\n

Wells Fargo and other companies accused of violating state privacy laws<\/h2>\n

Thousands of individuals who bank with Wells Fargo are now eligible for a chunk of the multi-million dollar settlement that will be paid out by the bank, as well as several other companies and holdings after allegations of violating California privacy laws were made against the companies.<\/p>\n

The class action lawsuit was filed by plaintiffs against Wells Fargo Bank, Priority Technology Holdings, Priority Payment Systems, and The Credit Wholesale Company.<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit, the aforementioned companies are being accused of recording the phone calls of Wells Fargo customers without their knowledge or consent. Neither the bank, nor the other companies have admitted to any form of wrongdoing in this case. However, the bank and companies have agreed to pay a settlement amount of $19.5 million in order to resolve these allegations.<\/p>\n

The Credit Wholesale Company is a subsidiary of Wells Fargo and Priority Technology Holdings who sells credit card processing systems and other similar services for the bank. Individuals who had received a phone call from the Credit Wholesale Company from October 22, 2014 and November 17, 2023 are eligible to claim a portion of the $19.5 million settlement amount.<\/p>\n

According to the allegations made against these companies, the phone calls made to customers were recorded unbeknownst to them and as such, it became a breach of the California Invasion of Privacy Act. According to this Privacy Act, “no confidential communication can be recorded without consent, and phone conversations are considered confidential communications.”<\/p>\n

How much can a class member claim from this settlement?<\/h2>\n

The companies have agreed to a settlement amount of $19.5 million which will be divided up amongst class members. It has been revealed that each claimant can claim a maximum of $5,000, however, this figure could change since an accurate total of eligible claimants has not yet been confirmed.<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit, “The Classes include tens of thousands of businesses who received appointment setting telemarketing calls from Wholesale\u2019s call centers. The exact number of class members is unknown at this time.”<\/p>\n

As per the terms of the settlement, class members may make a claim for each call received during the stipulated dates. The precise amount of cash that will be paid out is dependent on the total number of claims filed, however, it has been estimated that each claimant will receive around $86 per phone call. Furthermore, the terms of the settlement also dictate that claimants can receive up to $5,000 in compensation depending on eligibility.<\/p>\n

Once all claims are filed, the net settlement amount will be divided by the total number of eligible claims so as to establish an accurate total.<\/p>\n

Important dates<\/h2>\n

Individuals who are filing a claim in this case must submit the phone number and\/or business name that received the calls from The Credit Wholesale Company as proof of eligibility. All claims can be submitted here<\/a> by no later than April 11, 2025.<\/p>\n

Any individual who wishes to exclude themselves from this settlement or has any objections should contact the settlement administrator by April 4, 2025.<\/p>\n
