One of America’s top retailers, Walmart,<\/a> is currently embarking on a journey of massive change. For retailers to remain relevant in the competitive landscape of the retail industry, certain changes need to occur. That is why organisations are required to be adaptable to ensure they remain productive and effective. For this reason, the retail giant is focused on changing things up to continue having a competitive advantage against its rivals.<\/p>\n

Reason behind the change<\/strong><\/h2>\n

As we live in the fourth industrial revolution, where technology is becoming smarter day by day, organisations should continue to remain flexible and adaptable. For some organisations, it is really difficult to compete or partner with technologically driven initiatives. It is for this reason that Walmart decided to remain future-focused, because the world will just become more technologically driven. In addition, because Walmart has a reputation of being the king of the brick-and-mortar space, the retailer needs to remain competitive.<\/p>\n

For online retailers, it may be easier to implement change, but if the market demands change, then companies need to keep up. According to Walmart’s Chief Executive Officer, Doug McMillion, the retailer is a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel organisations, with the focus on helping people save money and live better. He further added to the Chain Drug Review that he does not want to underestimate the impact that technology make, however, the retailer is dedicated to serving consumers and work with people.<\/p>\n

Although this people-centric view is pivotal for the success of a retailer like Walmart, it does not get people all the way to the end line. Especially, since we live in a technologically driven world, the retailer has to consider the impact it will have on its market. Therefore, Walmart started working on a project which includes the renovation and modernisation of 650 stores in 47 states.<\/p>\n

Closure of several Walmart stores<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Since the retailer is focused on making changes and being future-focused, it is safe to say that some stores does not serve the retailer giant’s vision of the future anymore. The retailer made and announcement that it will be closing a store\u00a0in Coon Rapids, Minn. on August 29,\u202f2025.\u00a0It has been stated that this store which will be closed is located on Riverdale Drive NW, situated in a big shopping plaza, next to a Hobby Lobby, Skechers outlet, and Plato’s Closet.<\/p>\n

The drive is about a 30 minute from Minneapolis. There are more than twelve Walmart stores in the bigger Minneapolis area, and the Coon Rapids location is said to be an older store. Additionally, The Coon Rapids Walmart stores does not have a robust grocery store. This is something consumers have been seeking for, because they want affordable food. Especially if looking at the impact of tariffs and inflation, and how it squeezes the cost of everything whether it is eggs or apparel.<\/p>\n

In addition, the closure of this specific Walmart stores<\/a> is due to another additional reason. This reason is the poor financial performance of the stores, as stated by a spokesperson. The retailer said that it is grateful for the consumers who have provided them with the privilege to open a store in Coon Rapids. The retailer giant is looking forward to serving the community at nearby Walmart stores, through online purchases, or even through delivery.<\/p>\n

Changing of certain stores<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This Walmart store in Coon Rapids, currently remains open for business. The only difference is that it implemented assisted checkouts via real cashiers for consumers. This store’s closure marks the second store closed in the northern Twin Cities area in two years. The previous store, the Brooklyn Center, also situated north of Minneapolis, were closed down in April\u202f2023. It is important to note that all 180 affected Walmart employees in Coon Rapids store, will receive transfers to the other stores in the area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
