Israel launches a new air strike on western Gaza City, leaving a total of 33 people dead. Among them is journalist Ismail Abu Hatab, bringing the death toll of media workers in the enclave to 228 since the beginning of the conflict. This is an alarming situation, which puts the Jewish State at the center of criticism from international human rights organizations.
Massacre on a guesthouse
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that this Monday, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) fighter jets launched an extensive bombardment on the Al Baqa guesthouse, located next to the Gazan square. So far, reports confirm the death of 33 people and dozens of civilians wounded. The attack was direct against the compound, causing a new massacre in the city.
This attack is just one of many recorded during the last few days, although it took place far from the humanitarian aid centers. However, witnesses to this tragic scene commented that outside this compound there was a tanker truck in charge of delivering drinking water to the residents of the area, so this could also be considered a blow to Gazan needs, in the midst of an unprecedented crisis.
According to information published by the local news agency Sanad, a large number of civilians, including many minors, were standing in front of the truck waiting to fill their containers with drinking water. Several of these people were injured and were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Journalists killed in Gaza
The news agency reported that so far they managed to identify only a few bodies after this attack. Among them are: Mustafa Abu Omeira, Hosam Mansur, Hisham Aiman, activist Omar Zeno and journalist Ismail Abu Hatab. This last name sparks a great controversy, as he is one of the many Palestinian journalists who lost their lives during the coverage of this war.
In view of this situation, the Hamas-controlled government of Gaza condemned the bombings and demanded the immediate intervention of the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists and all those organizations that defend freedom of the press. They also consider these to be systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists covering the Israeli genocide live.
The Gazan authorities hold Israel, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany and France responsible for what has happened, since they participate directly or indirectly in these crimes against humanity and do nothing to prevent it. According to official data, 228 journalists have already lost their lives during this conflict between Hamas and the Netanyahu government, where those who suffer most are Palestinian civilians.
Netanyahu starts to feel the pressure
After the cease-fire with Iran, the United States began to pressure Benjamin Netanyahu to sign an agreement with Hamas and to stop the attacks on the Palestinian enclave. Donald Trump’s wish is that the Jewish government will soon accept a deal with the Islamic organization to exchange hostages and put an end to this unfortunate war that has already caused the death of more than 52,000 people.
According to the U.S. president, Israel’s priority is to repatriate the 50 hostages still being held captive in the Palestinian enclave. Therefore, he considers that a deal would serve to achieve this objective, without the need for extensive military operations or further destruction in the region. So far, the Netanyahu government has not responded directly to U.S. pressure, although there could be developments in the coming days.
